About Brian Cooper
Magic Card Investor Founder, Editor, Writer, Main Guy in Charge
Brian’s experience with trading cards goes back to the early 1980’s when he first started collecting sports cards as a kid. As the years went on, Brian’s collection grew so much that he eventually turned it into a side hustle where he set up at sports cards shows on the weekends selling cards.
Brian had the entrepreneurial spirit! His side hustle soon turned into a full-fledged business, setting up at local shopping mall sports card shows just about every weekend, selling tens of thousands of dollars in wax packs and boxes. His business grew so much that he expanded his horizons and started traveling througout the country to major regional and national shows as well.
Brian’s travels took him to the largest Sports Card Shows Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York and eventually led to him setting up at the National Sports Collectors Conventions in Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis and Houston back in the early 90’s.
It was an exciting time for sure!
It was the Spring of 1994 when Brian first encountered Magic: The Gathering. Brian was a Senior at Moravian College in Pennsylvania and he, along with his gang of roommates, got hooked on what was becoming the hottest card game in the country.
As Brian was about to wrap up his Senior year at college in that Spring of 1994, everyone was set to go on Spring Break as kids normally do. But not Brian….and not his roommates. They had other ideas.
Instead of traveling to sunny locations along the East Coast, Brian and his nerd roommates decided to camp out in their college apartment and play Magic….DAY AND NIGHT….for the entire spring break!
It was heaven…and hell…especially when you lost a game. God forbid someone throw a Shivan Dragon on the table during gameplay. You could pretty much guarantee to hear the expletives flying out the windows like a 5/5 Dragon.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness” and it was the age of MAGIC: THE GATHERING!
Fast forward a little bit. Brian graduated from Moravian College later that year in 1994 with a B.A. in Business Management and opened up his very own Sports Card retail store in Easton PA just prior to graduating. He ran the shop (called BC Sports World) until the late 1990’s when the sports card universe pretty much imploded due to high prices, massive print runs and a flood of people out of the industry.
It was during this time that Brian ended up selling most of his Magic collection and moving on to careers in both Retail and eventually Telecommunications. Brian’s Magic collection had included everything from handfuls of Unlimited Mox’s to thousands of cards encompassing Beta, Unlimited, Revised, Antiquities and Legends to name just a few. Brian still mourns the loss of his very first Magic collection to this day.
Over the years Brian still collected and played Magic. Although he didn’t have his super awesome early Magic collection anymore, he still continued to buy cards and play the game throughout the years.
As Brian continued his career in Telecommunications, he pursued other hobbies on the side which led him to building websites and writing great content. Over the years Brian learned all about SEO, building WordPress sites, affiliate marketing and just about everything related to digital marketing.
Some of those early websites were flops and some did ok. But Brian figured out the problem. He was writing about things that just didn’t interest him so he decided to write about something he really enjoyed.
That’s when Magic Card Investor first appeared in early 2022.
Magic Card Investor is Brian’s outlet to talk about and teach others about collecting and investing in Trading Card Games (TCG), specifically Magic: The Gathering. Although Brian is also interested in other TCG’s like MetaZoo, Sorcery, and Flesh and Blood, Magic: The Gathering has and always will be the best card game ever devised in his opinion.
There are lots of people out there doing a great job at writing about the Magic game itself. However, Magic Card Investor is not about gameplay and strategy.
It’s about collecting and investing in Magic Cards, Booster Boxes and Graded Singles.
It’s about collecting and investing in Pokemon, MetaZoo, Sorcery, Lorcana, Flesh and Blood and all of the other TCG’s on the market.
The main focus of Magic Card Investor is on collecting and investing in the greatest card games to ever hit the Earth. If you enjoy Magic and you really enjoy collecting cards and Booster Boxes, you’ve come to the right place. Enjoy!
