Since we just passed the 2-year anniversary of the release of the MetaZoo Kickstarter Booster Box, I thought it would be a good idea to check in on the market and see how prices are looking. What I cannot believe is how much prices have plummeted over the past year. Wow!

Time Has Certainly Past Quickly!
I can’t believe MetaZoo Kickstarter was shipped out two years ago! It seems like just yesterday I was clamoring to find packs and boxes to stash away. As I’ve mentioned before, I was lucky to have been somewhat early in buying some Kickstarter packs, singles and boxes so my entry into MetaZoo came at a superb time.
That window was extremely short and it was only a matter of days and weeks before prices started to skyrocket. Like BIG time skyrocket!
I remember it was very late March 2021, just a few weeks after boxes started shipping. Prices were around $500-$800 and going FAST. As quickly as you found one, it was sold. On March 31s of that year I was able to snag two MetaZoo Kickstarter Booster Boxes (priced $742 and $938) and I was extremely lucky I did.
By the time the boxes arrived at my home they were close to $2,000 each. In just the amount of time it took USPS to get the box to my home, prices had more than doubled. To say I was nervous about getting the boxes through my front door is an understatement. Luckily I had two very honest sellers who shipped the boxes out on time, even knowing the prices were going up daily.
2 YEARS LATER – Where Are MetaZoo Kickstarter Prices Now
It has certainly been a roller coaster ride for the TCG market and MetaZoo Cryptid Nation Kickstarter Booster Boxes are in the front row of the coaster.
Regular Kickstarter Booster Boxes were at one time $7,000-$8,000 and Non Alternating Kickstarter Booster Boxes (where the packs were stacked differently inside the box) were closer to $10,000. This was maybe 12-18 months ago, but times have changed.
As you’ll see from the most recent sales below, boxes are back down near historic lows. The 3-month average for the 1st quarter of 2023 is just over $3,300 and a few of the more recent sales are less than that.
Just this past week there was an auction sale on eBay where a NON-ALTERNATING METAZOO KICKSTARTER BOOSTER BOX sold for $1,525! And that lot also included a Kickstarter Blister Pack (once a $500 item) and a handful of other cards. Someone got a GREAT deal on this lot for sure. I’m upset I missed it!
Why Are MetaZoo Kickstarter Booster Box Prices So LOW?
I think first and foremost, we’re currently in pretty unstable times when it comes to the macro economy. We have inflation issues, high interest rates, gas prices which are still out of hand, and a dollar that is losing value day by day. The economic environment in the U.S. is as bad as I’ve seen it in a long time.
This ultimately affects how much discretionary income is available for other things like entertainment, vacations, hobbies and YES, Magic: The Gathering and other trading card game purchases.
The market overall is depressed and so is the trading card market and most other collectibles. But that is not such a bad thing as there will be awesome OPPORTUNITIES to buy things at prices not seen in months and years.
My Thoughts on the Future of MetaZoo Cryptid Nation Kickstarter Booster Boxes
I wish I had a crystal ball but I’m just not 100% sure on the future of MetaZoo. I can only give you my opinion based on what I’ve been seeing with the company, staying in tune with the MetaZoo Discord, watching the new products closely and coming up with gameplan for investing in MetaZoo.
That being said, I fully believe that we’ll see MetaZoo Cryptid Nation Kickstarter Booster Boxes make a huge comeback one day. Determining that “one day” piece is the difficult part.
Knowing how the economy looks right now I really think it will take a minimum of 1-2 years before we see prices creeping back up to the $5K range. There is just so much wrong with the economy (see above) that I think it will take that long for most collectibles to rebound in price.
But I think the long term outlook on MetaZoo is excellent. People love the game, they love the idea behind it and the cards themselves are very appealing. I think MetaZoo has carved out their own little piece of the TCG market and the they will continue to gain market share over time.
Do I think MetaZoo Cryptid Nation Kickstarter Booster Boxes will some day eclipse $10K?
Probably yes, but that is way off on the horizon.
I know for a few months back between November 2021 and February 2022, prices of boxes were sky high. During that time, the lowest price was around $7,500 and prices later hit their peak in December 2021 at just under $10,000!
So based on history, I know prices of Kickstarter Booster Boxes can get back and even exceed those very high levels of early 2022. But determining when that will happen is just impossible.
That being said, I think now is the perfect time to buy boxes. I don’t see them getting much cheaper and it couldn’t hurt to stash a box or two away for a LONG time. In the long run I think you’ll eventually see those big prices come back.
And remember this VERY important point. There were only 2,500 of these boxes made. This is probably the most limited print run of ANY MetaZoo Booster Box you will ever see! And how many have been ripped open already? There are VERY few of these left on the market in UNOPENED condition. Trust me, these boxes are SUPER rare.
